So you want to be Live on Internet. You need to do 2 essential things:
- Have a Domain Name of your choice.
- Web Hosting by some company.
This blog is to let you help in zero in among many overwhelming options available online. I will share my own experience while i was deciding on mine.
For beginners with limited to no experience in hosting, it can get complicated in deciding on the best/affordable/reliable web hosting platform.
With several hours of reading reviews, I have converged to Bluehost and GoDaddy. I have called up both the Customer Care and spoken to their Technical Team, who gave a pretty good briefing about the basics of Bluehost as well as GoDaddy website hosting. The Sales Team of Bluehost was not available and I was told I would get Call Back, which I didn’t for 2 consecutive days and making 2 attempts.Got to talk to them in the third time. Somehow, with Bluehost good reviews otherwise, didn’t expect this. Then , they have this .in/.com server locations which may be complicated to understand in the beginning. I called up myself 3rd time to the Sales Team and the plan for Indian Buyers is Rs. 209 plus Taxes. So just about Rs.250 p.m. for Bluehost Hosting.
At the same time, GoDaddy is offering a Basic Plan of Rs. 99 p.m. ( Rs.1188 p.a.) and with a Free Domain name for a Year. You can add an Optional Privacy Protection for a year for Rs.99 per year. This is for WordPress Managed Website only where there is no cPanel, which probably is not a bad thing for a beginner.
People who are starting off, it may be pretty overwhelming going through the features provided in cPanel. As per the review, both have similar uptime % of > 99%.
For a beginner, it is important to concentrate on the content of the website/blog and learn WordPress efficiently for building up the website. With time, it can be expanded with added features and requirements.
This was my take while choosing GoDaddy based on the simplicity and plan point of view.I have attached the screenshot of my purchase from GoDaddy!
Happy Blogging!
